Quality: OK video quality, very good audio.

C-Span:
The embeded C-Span video player includes scollbars and is very small. Note: To delete those scrollbars, you need to add "scrolling="no"" to the code.
I'm going to stream live over the AT&T 3G network to Qik. When the stream starts, a message will be sent to my twitter stream informing my followers that I'm starting a live stream.

Next, the stream will show up on stevegarfield.com/live, my Mogulus channel at mogulus.com/stevegarfield and qik.com and my Qik page at qik.com/stevegarfield

At this point, viewers will be able to text chat with me and I'll see those messages show up on my phone.

I plan to have the live stream auto-go-live on my Mogulus channel, interrupting the pre-recorded playlist.

I'm also going to stream live to The UpTake at theuptake.org

In that case, my live stream won't break into The UpTake broadcast, I'll be cued to go live when the anchor in a remote city tosses it to me... Ha ha. Just like TV, but interactive.

Once I stop the live stream the video will be archived at Qik, and Mogulus.

The archived video will also then show up on Seesmic, where a video discussion can take place about the video.

Disclosure: I'm an investor in Seesmic.

Bill Maher: Can you give me a good reason why in a free and fair society marijuana should be illegal?

Chris Dodd: And again, and ah the overall of general of allowing ah the the decriminalization I strongly advocate as well.

You can mashup the Democratic Debate over on Yahoo!'s Jumpcut site. It takes some work though since the online interface isn't as direct as that of a desktop editor, but you can edit the clips and make your own mashups.

I edited down a long winded question by Bill Maher and shortened Chris Dodd's answer to get to the point quickly. It's kind of like those services that edit down baseball games into 15 minutes. Someone could do that do a debate and give viewers the main points in a quick summary. It'd be a lot of work though.

I'll be interested to see what type of creative results come from this.

Head over to the Democratic Candidate Mashup page at Jumpcut to try it out yourself and let me know what you think.

Once there, you are presented with an interface that is crippled.

You'll notice that there is no place to leave comments and no rating system is visible.

The only way to get to the comments and ratings is to click on the entry's title. YouTube has even disabled the standard way of going to a video, by clicking on it. I can't understand why YouTube is doing this. It makes it so much harder to comment and rate these entries. Comments and ratings should be available on this page.

They are still available on the video's standard YouTube page, but then you are involved in a whole messy page forward, page back loop.

One more thing about how videos are chosen. From the website, "The CNN political team will choose the most creative and compelling videos, and if yours is one of them, you may get the chance to fly to Charleston to watch the debate live."

I think that's ironic. They'll fly you down there only to then sit back and watch yourself ask a recorded question.

Long sees this as an opportunity for videobloggers to get close the candidates and show us what they're like up close and personal.

Long quotes Steve Capus, President, NBC News.

"There is nothing like being there, up close and personal, when it comes to covering a presidential election, and this allows us to be there in a very big way. Our team of reporters on the road with the candidates will be in a unique position to report all aspects of this dynamic story for every single one of our platforms."

I’d love to have the campaigns realize this too and start putting out more personal videos from the candidates. Of course I care about where they stand on the issues, but I’d also like to learn more about them as people.

What are they really like when they aren’t giving sound bites? How do they manage? are they micro managers or delegators.

I’m really interested to see what comes of this…

At the Personal Democracy Forum I did some hallway walking, and captured some fleeting moments in video.

This video is authentic and unedited. Captured on a Nokia N95 cellphone, that I'm evaluating for Nokia, I uploaded the videos to blip.tv, which automatically converted the .mp4 videos to flash and cross-posted them to my video blog.

It's easy to create this type of video and I'd enjoy seeing video like this from the candidates running for president.

John Edwards just sent me an email that prompted me to act.

The email asked me to contribute money to help him put an ad, about ending the war, on TV in Washington. I didn't do that.

It also asked me to create a video. That I did.

Edwards says:

I asked my staff to create an emergency television ad that would bring the people's voice directly to Congress, calling on them to make the right choice. They worked late into the night and we now have a powerful message ready to go on the air in D.C. as soon as tomorrow morning.

I get lots of emails similar to this one. They always ask for money to put an ad on TV, and I always wonder why they don't encourage people to spread the videos on line.

This time the ad is up on YouTube, and there is something different at the end of the email too.

Edwards asks people to contribute to the ad by recording video of themselves saying "We the People":

We've designed the ad so you can actually add yourself in online. We hope that dozens, hundreds or even thousands of people will send in video clips of themselves echoing the message of the ad — "We the people" are asking Congress to stand up to Bush.

This makes it very easy to participate and collaborate with the campaign to send a message to Washington.

Anyone with a webcam can post a video response. People are already discussing the ad's merits, in the comments, on YouTube.

I'll be interested to see how many video responses get posted. They've made it easy to participate and it's an issue that a lot of people feel strongly about. At this early stage of the campaign, I think a lot of people like myself who haven't yet decided on a candidate, might contribute to this video, since it's more about the issue, and less about endorsing a candidate.

The campaign has it set up so that video responses will be posted after they have been approved by the video owner.

McCain’s videos may be ready for prime time, but not for YouTube. He doesn’t speak directly to those of us who are clicking; he speaks off-camera, as if this were an interview, or he speaks through music and polished production, as if this the video were intended for the giant screens at a nominating convention.
