Searching for Onffline Support
By Joshua Levy, 01/15/2008 - 6:08pm

As more candidates (ok, Barack Obama) make the transition from online activism and organizing to offline support, I’ve realized that I have no word to describe the convergence of political action on the web and in meatspace, so I’ve come up with a neologism:

Onffline.

As in, “Barack Obama is leading his opponents in onffline support.”

Of course, maybe Obama and all of the other candidates don’t really deserve a merged term since they’re still working at converting enthusiasm into votes. In that case, onffline might be a spime.

In any case, the word doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue. So here’s a call for a better term or phrase. What are your ideas?

Congratulations, Josh

"Blog" probably sounded no better the first time. I'm going to nominate you for the 2008 Word of the Year. If w00t and blog can get it, so can onffline.

off line and online campaign organizing

I suggest netgrassroots. Important concept. Great blog.

Offline, he's already got tough competition

I saw Jackie Speir when she was running for the nomination for Lt. Governor. She's smart and savvy. Has great positions on some important issues--with the in-depth knowledge to make her proposals realistic. And has been a congressional aide. So she knows how DC works. Lantos used to be my rep and I frankly didn't think a lot of him. If I hadn't moved, I'd be more than pleased to vote for Speir.
