Mitt Romney, victor of Michigan, dominates our favorite videos of the week. Watch as he’s criticized for dissing a medical marijuana user, Democrats are urged to bring out the vote for him, and he gets testy with a reporter for bringing up the small question of whether lobbyists are running his campaign. Touchy subject, Mitt?
[LATE ADDITION]
Hillary's Inner Tracy Flick
I loved Election when it came out. It's portrayal of a high-school election contest between an obsessive-compulsive, tense girl and a laid back jock was pitch perfect. When the folks at Slate V realized there were some parallels with the Democratic candidates, this video was born.
7. Edwards campaign unleashes secret weapon
Douglas, a precocious 12-year-old who’s campaigning for John Edwards, can spout off campaign slogans and policies like the most seasoned canvaser. The Edwards campaign didn’t produce this video but it should promote it with all its might. About 4,000 views on YouTube.
6. South Carolina Ronald Reagan Debate
The folks at TPMtv noticed a certain past president making an appearance — at last week’s Republican debate in South Carolina. While this video goes on too long and doesn’t pack the punch of the intro all the way through, it makes its point well enough. More than 22,000 views on YouTube.
5. Run Mitt Run
A group of political comedians call attention to Mitt Romney’s dismissive behavior toward a user of medical marijuana. It comes off as an improv group trying to do political humor, and isn’t always that funny, but it’s great that they’ve connected to work being done by Granite Staters for Medical Marijuana and called Mitt out. More than 2,000 views on Current.
4. Democrats For Romney
After Markos Moulitsas encouraged his Democratic readers to vote for Mitt Romney, YouTuber Andy Cobbon (the guys behind the Lonliest Icelander made a video doing the same, reminding Democrats that “there is no greater voice against the Republican candidates… than this Republican candidate.” More than 172,000 views on YouTube.
3. Obama prefers Ronald Reagan over Bill Clinton
Barack Obama breaks Democratic party line and compares himself (as a change agent) to Ronald Reagan; evil spirits are unleashed. More than 33,000 views on YouTube.
2. Push Poll by Huckabee supporter against Fred Thompson
We all hear about them but few of us receive them. Here’s digital proof of push polling in South Carolina, framing Mike Huckabee as the responsible candidate on taxes and Fred Thompson as a weak tax-raiser. About 15,000 views on YouTube.
1. Romney in Heated Exchange with AP Reporter
Mitt Romney attempts to explain that he has no lobbyists “running his campaign” while a journalist continues to press him. Mitt gets a bit testy, perhaps experiencing for the first time what it’s like to be a (kinda, sorta) frontrunner. Almost 12,000 views on YouTube. (hat tip Crooks and Liars)
