Hugh Atkin, who made the "Changes" video we highlighted last Friday, mashing up the David Bowie song with all the candidates talking about "change," has a follow-up that's incredible: a mash-up of Senator Hillary Clinton's now famous emotional moment just before the New Hampshire with, get this, Tom Cruise talking about his passion for Scientology. The juxtapositions in their two monologues are absolutely eerie, and you'll enjoy the faux "Mission Impossible" guitar riff in the background too.
"Clinton and Cruise - On the campaign trail" currently has just over 5,000 views, but Atkin's previous effort zoomed from just 6,000 when we cited it in our top videos of the week on Friday to more than 121,000 today. Atkin is a 23-year-old from Sydney, Australia. He told me, "I've been very surprised at how quickly it has spread and I'm really happy that so many people seem to enjoy it - it's definitely made all the editing worthwhile."
I don't know if this is gang-up on Hillary week on YouTube, but thanks to a twitter from Dave Winer, I noticed this interesting update on Howard Dean's 2004 "scream":
It's not nearly as good as Atkin's videos, by a long stretch. But there does seem to be something about Clinton that inspires (?) satire online. Throw in SlateV's "Election" mash-up, which also emphasizes Clinton's driving ambition, and I think we're starting to get a pattern, akin to Chevy Chase's portrayal of Gerald Ford as constantly falling down. It can't be good for a candidate when even the amateur comedians online start nailing you, day after day. In the past, the Clinton campaign has moved smartly to puncture moments like this, putting out its own pitch-perfect satires, like its campaign song contest and its "Sopranos" spoof. I wonder if we'll see something like that again.

Nice work effectively, but
Nice work effectively, but the original idea, the same music and montage were taken from a video made a year ago to compare Tony Blair and David Cameron.
