Favorite Videos of the Week: McCain as Churchill, and is Paul Out?
By Joshua Levy, 03/07/2008 - 10:59am

The campaigns produced some doozies for us this week! From John McCain’s continuing slide into artful weirdness to the Clinton/Obama “red telephone” ads, we’re wondering if humor and humanity are getting lost in the mix. Thankfully, Jack Nicholson’s there to bail us out. Meanwhile, Ron Paul may be telling supporters he’s out, though we couldn’t follow his speech enough to know exactly what he was communicating.

6. Man in the Arena

Winston Churchill for president! A bizarre campaign video from John McCain presenting McCain as the heir to Teddy Roosevelt and Winston Churchill. Did the second half of the 20th century even happen? About 1,700 views on YouTube, but it’s also featured on his website.

5. Ron Paul’s Message to Supporters

Paul’s tendency to freeze up in front of the camera is in full effect here, in a speech that sounds like a cross between a campaign post-mortem and a call to arms (if you can follow all seven-plus minutes). More than 17,000 views on YouTube and growing.

4. Hillary: Barack, I’ve Got My Groove On!

Amy Poehler, eat your heart out. Rosemary Watson is the best Hillary impersonator we’ve seen this season. Did you know Hillary doubled as a lounge singer in college? Color us impressed! Almost 5,000 views on YouTube.

3. Children

Hillary takes a cue from Walter Mondale and produces an ad that may have helped her win Texas and Ohio. “There’s a phone in the White House and it’s ringing… something’s happening in the world,” the narrator says. Be afraid. About 725,000 views on YouTube.

2. “Ringing” TV Ad

Obama’s answer to Clinton. It’s the same ad, with a twist. And you should still be afraid. Viewed more than 330,000 times on YouTube.

1. Hillary Clinton Ad Featuring Jack Nicholson

His Jackness plucks a bunch of quotes from memorable roles and strings together a cute endorsement of Hillary. Makes us want to watch The Shining again. About 430,000 views on YouTube.

Jack and Hill

This is the actual version released by the Clinton campaign (it's the same video - but this is the one it promoted): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6mOa3sXjqE4

Views: 1,450,946, which you can add to the almost 500,000 of the one you posted to get near 2M.
