Our Favorite Videos Of The Week: Baracky Obamaboa
By Joshua Levy, 04/18/2008 - 10:47am

In this week’s favorite videos, the campaigns get creative and retro, with Nader, Clinton, and Obama producing new campaign ads; Eyeblast.tv offers a retrospective of voter-generated video; and Baracky rises from the streets of, er, Philly to the halls of Washington.

6. Obama Girl and the Campaign Choir

After leaving the National Journal’s Technology Daily, Danny Glover went on to produce the video sharing site Eyeblast.tv. A recent entry on the site takes a look back at all of the voter-generated video we’ve seen over the last year, from Obama girl to the McCain Girls to more obscure videos in support of… Duncan Hunter. Remember him?

5. Leave Ralph Nader Alone Video Challenge

“Leave __ Alone” has become one of the most dominant, and consistently funny, YouTube memes of the year. Now comes — get this — the Ralph Nader campaign with its own version, begging us to, yes, leave Ralph alone. Check out the dying-cow wail at the very end. The campaign is asking supporters to post their own “Leave Nader Alone Video” — let’s see if it catches on. With just under 500 views of this video, they’ll have to do a better job of getting the word out.

4. McCain: Out of Touch

In their first TV ad, the newly-created Progressive Media USA, led by David Brock, produced this retro-style video pairing John McCain’s comments about the economy with identical comments from George Bush. The TV/old school metaphor does a nice job of reinforcing Democratic talking points. About 87,000 views on YouTube.

3. “Guide” TV Ad

Another retro TV ad, this one from the Obama campaign, hits John McCain and Hillary Clinton for their ties to lobbyists. Don’t let the Sunday-brunch vibraphone fool you, this one is serious. About 50,000 views on YouTube.

2. Tammie

Hillary is answering questions from NC voters, and this first response fails to convey that “conversation” feel. As Hillary reads a question from Tammie from Cherryville about rising gas prices, we view a still image of Tammie. She seems like a nice person. But why no video of her, and why didn’t Tammie visit Clinton in her NC offices? Clinton then reads a scripted response full of phrases like “lets put hybrid vehicles on the fast track.” Then she’s done! Conversation over. About 11,500 views on YouTube.

1. BARACKY: THE MOVIE

Who would have guessed that Rocky would figure so prominently in this campaign? First, Sly Stallone endorsed John McCain; then Hillary Clinton compared herself to the legendary boxer from Philly. Now, YouTube user Humanitainment produces this pro-Obama satire. I love the bobbling heads, and Ted Kennedy fits right in as his manager. About 122,000 views on YouTube.
