Barack plays hoops, Gravel authors a dance mix, Hillary struggles with the coffee machine, and more in our weekly roundup of political video hits and misses.

6. Everything You Need to Know About the Democratic Race for President in Seven Minutes

If you just haven’t had the patience to pay close attention to the Democratic contest thus far, no worries. SlateV has a fun primer, telling you everything you know about the Democrats in seven minutes. It’s all there: Joe Biden, Chris Dodd, Dennis Kucinich, Clinton crying in New Hampshire, Obama wearing Somali headgear, Iowa surprises, etc. Man, this thing has been slogging on…

5. 3-on-3 with Barack Obama

You saw him bowl, now watch him shoot hoops. Obama takes on the winners of the 3-on-3 Challenge for Change contest. The announcer, of course, talks as if Obama is the only player on the court, but he ain’t too shabby. About 316,000 views on YouTube.

4. Obama Press Conference: April 29, 2008

If you judge solely by YouTube views of Barack Obama’s Tuesday press conference, where he denounced AND rejected Rev. Jeremiah Wright, people don’t seem to be hungry to get Obama’s unfiltered reaction in the same way they flocked to view the full 37-minute speech he gave on race several weeks ago. So far, the press conference video posted by the Obama campaign has only earned about 62,000 views on YouTube. That could be because the cable news shows were playing Obama’s remarks over and over again. But it’s clearly still too soon to say if the Wright controversy has run its course.

3. Behind the Scenes: Little Rock, Arkansas

The McCain campaign keeps diligently posting its “Behind the Scenes” videos on YouTube, but something doesn’t seem to be working. The most recent additions— like this one from Inez, Kentucky (about 1,400 views on YouTube) — have the value of documenting the Senator’s recent campaign stops, but we’re not sure what they’re accomplishing with them. Anyone have a clue?

2. Hillary vs. the coffee maker

Live by the shot-glass, die by the rest-stop coffee machine? Hillary Clinton may have impressed working-class voters last week in Pennsylvania by hoisting a brew, but after a photo opportunity at a gas station in South Bend, Indiana, she was caught by MSNBC struggling to figure out how to get the coffee machine to make her some cappuccino. With a soundtrack taken from Curb Your Enthusiasm, this snippet could be on its way to internet notoriety, with about 680,000 views on YouTube since it was posted three days ago.

1. Fire it Up! Gravel vs. Obama

We just might be ready to declare Mike Gravel the king of MTV-style political video. Teaming up once again with YouTuber rx2008, Gravel goes head to head with Barack Obama in a campaign dance remix, challenging him to talk about the issues (forget the fact that Gravel doesn’t actually mention any). About 4,200 views on YouTube.
