POLITICAL SMS SPAM USING DATABASE OF CELL PHONE NUMBERS FOR SALE

So what is going to happen when political campaign marketers get their hands on databases like the one at www.HugeDatabase.com ? That database and the "carte blanche" spamming and telemarketing greenlight that political and non-profit orgs have... we will be seeing donation requests on our mobiles very soon.

I received the text message and immediate texted back and got the call. While I didn't donate, I did listen to the entire robo-call from JRE. I think this is a tremendous tool, both for fundraising and traditional phone-voter contact...especially if the campaign can build their cell phone list. And JRE is actively trying to do that himself -- at a rally in Austin recently, he told everyone in the crowd to pull out their cell phones and text a word (i forget exactly what it was) to a certain number. He then winked at the crowd and said, "Thank you...now you'll all be connected to us to get the latest updates on the campaign" or something similar. It was both hokey and smart and the crowd loved it.

I am often told by people who "know" that, like the blogosophere, the mobile political bandwagon wont take off until someone finds a way to raise a bunch of money using nothing but cell phones. While I disagree with the "fundraising only" assumption behind that statement I do not deny it as a possible scenario that could bring mobile technology to the forefront of politics.
