Be blunt! The reason money is flowing in to the Democrat party is because there is a heated race. God only knows what the supporters of the loser will do.

Democrats have much to fear. McCain is far better known by independents and Democrats, than Obama is known by Republicans and independents. This race is going to be unique and very interesting.

Put a finer point on it; Huckabee still has higher web traffic than McCain by a third again, and more than Ron Paul (only in the last few weeks has he fallen below Clinton). I think Carroll is right that it has something to do with ideology, but also excitement about the campaign more generally--good web people can help enable something if its already there, but they can't create it. (cf Trippi & Edwards). That said, McCain COULD be doing some things to engage more people. First, he could start depending upon them.
