Reagan is Dead

I am disturbed by the amount of enthusiasm for Fred Thompson. His credentials are probably the weakest in the field; people who worked with him in the Senate outline a picture of a man who did the minimum to get by in the sort of job that requires a leader that will devote their lives to the work at hand.

The fact is, Republicans are increasingly on the losing side. They are taking all the unpopular positions, on the war in Iraq and health care and a number of other issues. And let's not forget what Republicans have done with our government over the last six years.

Thus, the Republican electorate wants a "winner," someone who would bring a Republican victory while not necessarily being the best leader available. Even moreso, Republicans want a Reagan-esque figure in a time when we don't need a Reagan-esque figure. We need a brand new sort of President, not someone who reminds us of a previous leader. Not to mention that our current socio-political climate would not be well served by a staunchly conservative, aggressive President. We've had one since 2000 and our country is at its worst political state since the 70s.

As usual, the Republican electorate will attempt to push their own agenda ahead of the wishes of the rest of the country. So will the Democratic electorate, most likely. When will Americans wake up and choose a strong leader who will serve the entire United States, not one party or the other? Perhaps it's time for a mixed Republican/Democratic ticket.

What a joke...

You have to be kidding me with: "It'll be because of the Revolution."

So you want to coop the Revolution? Fred Thompson isn't part of any revolution -- except maybe inspiring the revolution by being part of the current GOP establishment regime.

Here are some videos of the REAL revolution already in progress:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2bxiStfVW_c
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SwRXp8ZMdNQ

The Ron Paul campaign is a real grassroots campaign. He has 6 paid staff members and THOUSANDS of avid volunteers, many very tech-aware. It will be very tough for a paid-for, top-managed "grassroots" campaign to compete with that. But I'm sure the Ron Paul supporters welcome the challenge. After all, Ron Paul's message is all about competition.

It is interesting that they brought Todd Zeigler onboard. He found out on his own site that Ron Paul has a huge online presence.

Fred's online team is strong

Shira Toeplitz of National Journal had the scoop yesterday on Fred Thompson's full Internet team.

Of note, Thompson has tapped fellow TechPresident contributor, Mike Turk, as his "chief architect," heading up the team and wrangling the consultants. I don't really understand the title, but I guess it sounds stronger and more senior than "online political director," which lends well to the theory that Thompson is going to have a very strong Internet presence.

Dig in after the jump...
