Democracy in action?

In a way it doesn't matter who made the videos. If they strike a chord with viewers, they'll get more views, and will get passed along more. I do agree that the pros distort the basic premise of this argument with better production values. That could lead to more people watching the Crush on Obama video (though the young woman's wardrobe probably has more to do with that). But, in essence, if people enjoy seeing McCain look like an idiot, the video will do well. And that might just be the democratic principle in action--no matter who posted the video or why.

More on niche video

Hey Micah, Mike Connery with Future Majority raised some interestingly similar points a couple of months ago about the ability of video to spread within niche audiences. Here's the MyDD version of his post:

http://www.mydd.com/story/2007/3/28/14021/8142

And my response:
http://www.epolitics.com/2007/04/02/dueling-political-advertising-models-is-online-video-better-than-tv/

The Long Tail of Online Political Video

I'm glad that TechPresident blogger David All posted the "I've Got a Crush...on Obama" video this morning, because it opens up a discussion that Josh Levy and I started having yesterday when we got the same email tip about the video that I presume David got. First off, do watch the video--it's hilarious, the lyrics are priceless ("You're into border security...let's break this border between you and me...Universal health care reform...it makes me warm"), and BarelyPolitical, the comedy team that wrote the music and filmed the video, should probably get hired by Saturday Night Live. (They're up to nearly 30,000 views on YouTube, by the way, as of this morning.) But is this a political video mashup or a job application? And in this day and age, should we care if it's both at the same time?
