Do real people actually use RSS feeds?

Aren't they still mostly undiscovered by anyone not a blogger or a journalist? People look at me funny when I bring us RSS feeds in public --- which is not to say I have any idea how people live without them. (I use the Wizz RSS reader, a Firefox extension, it's awesome.)

Arguably I think a better metric for campaign blogs is the number of comments it draws, the general liveliness of the comment thread, and more interesting for me, whether there's community interaction and dialogue going on there. For an example, on the Obama HQ blog, there are pretty regularly a couple hundred comments on each blog post. I would guess that it's very well read. But more interesting, some people seem to know each other, come back every day to engage with the same people, be developing a sense of community.

Calendars

One nice thing about Dodd's setup is that if you are using a Mac you can subscribe to it with iCal!

There is also a nice calendar kept up at the Washington Post
http://projects.washingtonpost.com/2008-presidential-candidates/tracker/

When I was setting up my own calendar system on my site I e-mailed some of the campaigns asking if they had any plans to setup event systems. Mitt Romney's campaign was the only one that responded. They did say they had no current plans.

Gotta Love the Free Market

A free market of widgets... Let's make an Adam Smith widget to get his latest RSS feeds. :)

I suppose this is a further reason why open source rocks.

Clinton's Feeds

Clinton has had a blog feed since the blog went live. Additionally, it is linked in the header for discoverability by browsers.
