Dean dreams big

I don't actually see that two-way conversation Dean talks about in this election. I saw it in the Dean campaign at the beginning of the 2004 race. But really not since.

Still, I love the way Dean dreams. And I hope he's right!

Hey Joshua,
Nice seeing you again @ Kos.
I'm catching up on TechPresTV -- looking good. :-)

We're posting a bunch of Kos video at theuptake.org and my conference roundup was on Rocketboom today.

cheers,
Registration required

@Michael Turk: Registration is one thing, but having to have an American address to be able to register is a totally different point. And a negative one in my view. Since I don't live in the US and therefore cannot register as a 'Friend of Fred' I won't be able to 1) receive a newsletter and 2) view the blog comments. Maybe that part of the registration should be skipped all together?

Registration required

One interesting wrinkle--you can't view comments on the site's blog without first becoming a "Friend of Fred."

I wrestled with that, but required registration primarily to cut back on spam. There are some fairly good spam tools out there, but I still see a lot of it - especially on older posts. I figured it's a small inconvenience to ensure that you and future readers aren't sifting through ads and clutter to follow the discussion.

We should have noted this when it happened:....

I noticed.

Ron Paul surges past Obama

Here's a heads up. On August 8, Ron Paul will have been in the Technorati top search continuously for four straight months. That is unprecedented. Ask your brother. :)

That doesn't sound like Amy Rubin to me

We at Eventful have greatly enjoyed working with Amy Rubin, and there's no shortage of evidence that the Edwards campaign is very blogger friendly. In my experience Amy has been nothing but professional and helpful.

"Elizabeth [Edwards] really gets it, she's a blogger..."

...She's also to blame for most of the mistakes Edwards has made in the blogosphere. This Edwards staffer shouldn't confuse the important role of being the wife of the candidate to that of an online political operative.

Thanks for your reporting on this. You make some very interesting points about the structure/format of the conference that no one in the MSM would ever pick up on.

Regarding Kos' post consisting of all MSM clips about, well, Kos, I think that's expected as he/you/they try and work to define the importance of the "movement."

Every single story I've read pegs Kos as the ringmaster and the Netroots as the circus that every politician needs to attend. If I'm Kos, or a netroots activist, I'd be trying to push the same narrative throughout mainstream America.

After 2008, the modern world will look much different than it does today. But the players will remain the same and will have increased their playing field.

I think that's a great idea- to make everyone wear wrist bands of whoever they're supporting. Very clever, and I'll be interested to see if that becomes a trend in other types of political events (was there a "no freaking clue" wrist band for attendees to choose like there is an option in the DailyKos primary straw polls though?).

It should be noted that since the convention was held in Chicago, it only makes sense for Obama to have the largest number of declared-supporters simply because of obvious geographical reasons.

25 real dollars

We talked about making it free, but there were hard costs to be covered, and, also, there are capacity limits. Money serves as an indication of seriousness of interest. And it's a very good cause.

It is still, of course, considerably cheaper than a ticket to the RL event, not to mention T&E.

A friend and I visited Obama

A friend and I visited Obama HQ is Second Life yesterday afternoon (after the weekly SL Netroots meetup). We agreed that it was more professional-looking than Edwards' space, which is ironic since I think this one is even more unofficial than Edwards'. There were about 7 other avatars there, although I think a few of them were on the clock. One had a "security" title above his name. He approached us, we said hello, he went away.

As for yKos in Second Life, I am very interested to see how it goes. They will be charging registrants (less than in RL) and are restricting access to paid avatars. Personally, I never had a moment when I wished I was there in person (especially b/c it was in Vegas - ew) but I might plunk down the $25 (real dollars) to see it in SL out of curiosity.
