McCain Repor(t)

Is it just a funny accident that the title of McCain's new blog sounds a whole lot like the popular TV show of another notable conservative?
~~~
Not sure why this is getting as much coverage as it is.
It's worth noting that a "recommend" on DailyKos isn't the same thing as a show of support, and there were at least a couple Kossacks more than happy to push it to the top and see some of the louder Clinton supporters depart.
As for Alegre's complaints that diarists have been given free rein to "trash Hillary Clinton and distort her record," a quick look at her diary history shows a long line of diaries about Rezko, Goolsbe, etc. This isn't a diarist interested in civil dialogue or getting the facts straight.
A "strike" is mostly an empty threat anyway. Alegre doesn't play a large role at DailyKos, and Clinton supporters are a tiny percentage of active readers. And more often than not, diarists writing epic "I'm quiting" diaries (not at all an uncommon occurrence) end up coming back a week or so later.
The more interesting, problematic, and deepening divide is between the communities at DailyKos and MyDD. Multiple pro-Obama diarists have been banned there after tussles with site founder Jerome Armstrong. And Clinton supporters being banned from DailyKos have ended up congregating on MyDD. Hence the polarized recommended lists on each site.
CREDO, telecom lobbying at its worst
You have really got to give a hand to CREDO. They are out there where every lowdown, bottom-feeding lobbyist wants to be. This company is trying to use the Interent, free speech, a supposedly public forum and money in the form of donating to left-leaning public causes to advertise their product.
But it is their so-called "public forum" I take the most exception to. It is really a push-forum, utilizing the same techniques as a push poll. They completely control all messages going to their "comment" section in order to get their message out. And what is their message? "Buy our phone because we are a good company, political engaged in issues that are near and dear to your hearts."
If you want to see what cyber "advertising" is going to look like in a few years, one need go no further than CREDO Action
That number seems awfuly high. I also think it is high since most people who have access to e-mail have multiple addresses, such as one for work, one for home, and one as a "spam catcher".
Your Youtube chart on the front page hasn't been updated in over a month now, yet the Youtube chart page itself seems OK. Can you guys fix this so we don't have to view the full chart to get current numbers?
Sitemeter, Shmitemeter...how about Compete's #s?
If you read the comment thread here
you will see that Patrick's had a busy evening defending his analysis of how Sitemeter tracks traffic.
But let's look at Patrick's larger conclusion. If he's right about visit inflation on DailyKos, then maybe the left blogosphere isn't that much bigger than the right blogosphere. (And maybe advertisers should spend less money on the left's big sites, right?)
But while Patrick argues that his analysis suggests that Kos's readership is perhaps only twice the size of Michelle Malkin's, take a look at the head-to-head, apples-to-apples, comparison provided by Compete.com: It suggests that Kos had nearly three times as many unique visitors as Malkin in August, the last month tracked: nearly 500,000 compared to about 180,000. (On the other hand, Compete also suggests that Kos had a total of 1.8 million visits that month, a daily readership of about 60,000. Malkin's daily readership is estimated at almost 26,000 by Compete.)
The bottom line: all these numbers are fuzzy. What probably matters more is what people do on and through these sites. I don't think anyone would argue that in that department, the DailyKos community is far larger and more impactful than any other political site.
Sitemeter is right
See detailed analysis here.
Patrick Ruffini is misunderstanding the difference between what SiteMeter shows you on a summary page, and what is counted as a visit or a hit.
