Technology, the internet and the election

Speaking of technology and the election. I work for NBC17 in Raleigh, NC and we used ustream.tv to live stream the Obama Town Hall, the url is here: http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/355941. We had over 600 viewers at one time. With the internet and the right tools politicians can reach the world easier and push there voice throughout the internet.

I just purchased a Nokia N95 a few weeks ago and have live streamed a few local tech meetups with it as well. You can see my qik videos here: http://qik.com/waynesutton

It was fun to watch you last night with Scoble and Loic.

I'm adding this blog to my rss feed.

Thanks

Wayne

Candidates on net neutrality

I'd also add that the few pronouncements these candidate have made on net neutrality (and I work for Hands Off the Internet on this issue) are essentially empty.

Edwards can't tell you what it means, it's just on his checklist of so-called progressive causes. Huckabee got suckered into endorsing it with just a couple of misleading factoids about what it supposedly means.

As we've seen with the debate in the Senate, Ted Stevens is far from the only know-nothing on this issue. The only good policy position is to leave it alone -- if it's a problem later, it can be dealt with then.

live stream

The live stream is run by the Ron Paul 2008 National Youth director. It's accompanied by live chat and text messaging where supporters have input in where he goes, what camera views they prefer and who he interviews. We (as in supporters) were present through the livestream backstage at the debates, in the Spin Rooms and in the campaign "War Room" getting updates on Carol Paul (who was hospitalized for a heart condition at the Iowa Straw Poll) directly from Dr. Paul.

iPhone = mobile?

Ron Paul's campaign created a custom version of its site for the iPhone, much like Digg and Facebook have done. While this was a good idea, it's not what most of us mean by "mobile technology." Mobile means creating mobile campaigns that utilize shortcode and text messaging to create a dialogue with supporters.

Not sure where live-streaming (which was pioneered by the Dodd campaign) fits in with that...

Yes, they do.

>>>Unsurprisingly, no Republican candidates have used mobile yet.

*rolls eyes*

http://www.ronpaul2008.com/iphone

The entire Iowa Straw Poll was live-streamed here:

http://www.ronpaul2008.com/snippets/3/

Every rally and debate since Mountain View's rally has been streamed live on the web.

I don't know why I bother posting here, though. There's no conversation and no feedback. Kinda weird for a blog that's supposedly about Web 2.0.
