Here's to the press!

I think the press did a really good job reporting the election over-all. I would give them a score of 8 on a scale of 10.

Nancy Scola just blogged about a real life occurance of everything this article talks about. http://www.techpresident.com/blog/entry/29486/rnc_protestors_mastering_m...

Not talking about revolutions

Luigi. Your points are extreamly valid and I could not have said it better myself. To some degree the Obama style mobile campaign models mirrors the Obama campaign style in general. However, I was not talking about a mobile revolution, per say. I was just talking about mobile viral use on anything. The groundswell could be about anything. The point being that we have no way of knowing how or when it will take place. All I know is that when it does it will make what Obama is doing now look like infomercials and it will be all anyone is talking about and, unfortunately, try to copy.

I am not saying that the Obama campaign does not want this kind of organic viral mobile campaign. Who wouldn't. I just think that, believe it or not, they do not have the stamina or passion to have one. I think that is what you are saying also.

Generally speaking, There just is no formula for Black Swans.

The United States is not like the others

I think how mobile technology is used in the context of activism mirrors the social and political climate of a particular country at a particular time in history. The Philippine, Ukrainian, and Spanish examples above all occurred at a time when those respective governments severely betrayed the trust of a majority of their citizens.

That's just not happening here. Yes, there are (somewhat) organized movements of those who believe the current Bush administration is deserving of being overthrown, but that sentiment is just not shared by the vast majority of the country.

Frankly, I don't think a popular mobile revolution will ever happen here, because the U.S. system of government simply isn't as corruptible as that of other countries, and won't need to be overthrown. That's why we're so silly come election season. ;-)

Word

It is a useful tool for her press shop. It gives them a different voice to push news, but it isn't a major innovation.

Time and resources would be better spent getting the word out on non-campaign sites.

Hey Patrick, nice job -- we need to keep our eyes on what's working, not just on what's flashy. My echo:

I think the reason why YouTube and MySpace are talked about so much not only in the press, but also in the blogosphere (this site being a major player), is because those of us who do the "boring" but important technological/political work of database management, building activism tools, fundraising online, and email strategy are way too damn busy to be blogging about it!
