Thanks, plus clarifier

Wanted to thank you for the review of A Donkey and an Elephant Walk Into A Bar, and also clarify that it is not just for liberals, though there are a lot on there right now. It's meant to allow dialog across political parties....

We do have a facebook app, and I use Facebook heavily, but one difference I would point out: If you're wanting a job in the political sphere, a D&E profile would be better to show your bonafides than your Facebook page... Facebook also doesn't deliver to me all the political events in my area like D&E does...

It was a little more frustrating than fun

I love this line, Nancy: "doing politics in Second Life is a lot like having sex in a car. Just when things hit a groove, something falls out of whack. Still, when all is said and done, you're glad you did it."

So... I was also under the impression that I was helping to organize the protest, until I got there learned that someone else had negotiated and agreed to a cap on 5 avatars on behalf of all of the protesters. (Typical bad intra-coalition communication.) I didn't mind being roped off and separated like protesters at any other Republican event, and I didn't mind that they required us to get our names on an access list just to even be there, but limiting the protest to 5 when there were only about 30 avatars at Gingrich's "press conference" gave the impression that there less people who felt the way we did, which felt unfair.

When peace protesters go to military bases, we expect to be in the minority, and when pro-lifers show up at the March for Women's Lives they expect to be in the minority. That's a reality that Republicans need to experience in Second Life as well.

Ruby,

I read it the day it came out, well written, thanks for actually using my quotes! As Ronin noted, we have a new HQ for Mike inworld. You should definitely check it out, we're quite proud of it!

Obama is gone

The Obama HQ has been gone for a while. The in world campaign doesn't seem to be in a hurry to bring it back.

We'll have to circle back to check out the new space. Obama has also moved since I first saw it, so I also need to head over there.

Gravel HQ Has Moved

The Gravel campaign has already moved to a new location. This build was closed shortly after it opened.

I've included some details about the move and a link to the new location toward the end of
Ron Paul HQ came after Republican Party HQ

To say that no Republicans had Second Life builds before the Ron Paul HQ, is absurd. The Republican Party of SL, made up of Republicans, has had its own HQ for months now. It can be found at <url="http://slurl.com/secondlife/Cosentino/212/42/25"> http://slurl.com/secondlife/Cosentino/212/42/25

Why fade?

What makes you think it will fade out of the political scene? I think SL users are just beginning to discover the political possibilities of the platform; we'll be seeing many more experiments in the future. Rather than fading out, it's just getting going.

Just when you think that Second Life will fade out of the political scene, it keeps popping back up, albeit usually in a trivial, humorous, "and now this" way.

25 real dollars

We talked about making it free, but there were hard costs to be covered, and, also, there are capacity limits. Money serves as an indication of seriousness of interest. And it's a very good cause.

It is still, of course, considerably cheaper than a ticket to the RL event, not to mention T&E.

A friend and I visited Obama

A friend and I visited Obama HQ is Second Life yesterday afternoon (after the weekly SL Netroots meetup). We agreed that it was more professional-looking than Edwards' space, which is ironic since I think this one is even more unofficial than Edwards'. There were about 7 other avatars there, although I think a few of them were on the clock. One had a "security" title above his name. He approached us, we said hello, he went away.

As for yKos in Second Life, I am very interested to see how it goes. They will be charging registrants (less than in RL) and are restricting access to paid avatars. Personally, I never had a moment when I wished I was there in person (especially b/c it was in Vegas - ew) but I might plunk down the $25 (real dollars) to see it in SL out of curiosity.
