Students for Rudy Update

Over the past months, Students for Rudy has grown into a large coalition with supporters across the country. We have established chapters in 35 states, and have members in all 50. This newsletter details the many things we have been doing, and the great programs we have planned to ensure that Rudy becomes our next president.

Political commentators and pundits often claim that Students are irrelevant to the political process because we do not get involved. In the past, they have been right - most students don’t volunteer on campaigns, attend events, ask questions, or even vote. But this time, we can change all that. As students, we know what America needs - a president with a proven record, and the leadership experience to go with it. Rudy is the candidate young voters around the country can rally behind.

Our campaign now focuses on Florida, where Mayor Giuliani is running at the top of the pack. We are in an incredibly strong position, but we still need your help. As the primary season heats up, students can make a difference in so many ways. I invite you to join us as we travel to key primary states, visit one of our phone banks, start your own chapter, make a contribution to our campaign, come to an event and meet Mayor Giuliani, or just remember to vote.

See you in Florida,

Iowa Deployment

As the Iowa Caucus approached students from Wisconsin, Illinois, Virginia, New York, Florida, and Iowa came together to put forth an incredible effort. At our Iowa City headquarters, Students for Rudy averaged 5,000 phone calls a day. These same students braved the elements and went door-to-door in frigid temperatures to help get out the vote in Iowa. Now that caucus season is over, these same students will be working to help Rudy in Florida and other later states as well.

New Hampshire Deployment

In the week leading up to the New Hampshire primary, more than 45 Students for Rudy from around the country traveled to the Granite State to help campaign for Mayor Giuliani. They knocked on doors, made phone calls, met voters, and got to experience primary campaigning first hand. Students attended many events with Rudy, and got a chance to meet him at an exclusive students-only photo-op at the campaign headquarters in Manchester. Throughout the week, students were seen on Good Morning America, Nightline, Hannity and Colmes, and the New Hampshire Union Leader.

Students for Rudy at Nightline

Join Students for Rudy as we travel to Florida to lock up the GOP primary for Rudy. Students should arrive in Jacksonville, or Orlando, on the morning of January 26th, and plan to stay until the night of the 29th. Housing will be provided. Students will get a chance to participate in voter contact, organize rallies, attend events with Mayor Giuliani, and work with the campaign staff.

Chapter of the Week

Elizabeth Niles and Stephen Kenny founded Georgetown for Rudy last summer, allowing the group to hit the ground running by the time all the students arrived on campus. Their official t-shirts, modeled after New York Yankees jerseys, proved very popular among both students and parents and served as an advertisement for the Mayor's campaign in and around Georgetown.

Georgetown for Rudy boasts the largest membership of any Republican candidate's campaign at Georgetown, and students and campaign staff have taken part in debates and issue forums. Additionally, members have assisted the campaign in ballot access efforts and phone banking. Georgetown for Rudy plans to play a major role in the campaign as the mayor gears up for a big victory in Florida and then on to Super Tuesday!
