It's Friday, and it's my birthday, so I'm going to dig deep and give away five creative ideas I'd be working on if I were working for a Presidential campaign. Would they go viral? Well, you never know unless you try. And that, my friends, is the beauty of having a free distribution service.
And one more thing, you'll note that all of these videos are POSITIVE. Video can be used to do something other than tear down the other guy.
1. The Organic User-Generated Video
My friend, techPresident co-founder Micah Sifry, always talks about the story of Ashley Faulkner which created a viral email campaign, mainstream media fury, and then a campaign commercial for President Bush's re-election campaign. I imagine the video version of this moment would be similar to the "Free Hugs" campaign, but for a political candidate:
2. The White Board
UPS has already laid stake to a real white board, but I'm a geek, so this kind of stuff really grabs my attention. I'd find a way to make this technology relevant to the message I was trying to amplify:
3. True Sketch Comedy
Saturday Night Live and Mad TV clips are actually really good when you don't have to watch the accompanying commercials or the "filler" spots. And comedy is a great ingredient for making any video go viral. We tried a few on the Mike Bouchard race. This one was my favorite:
4. The Webcameron
I'm a big fan of David Cameron. I would love to see a US candidate have a similar, authentic dialogue with us.
5. The Rocketboom
Every campaign should have it's own YouTube show with commentary about the campaign and original reporting, similar to Rocketboom of course. (I'm going old school with this video.)
How funny, I just posted to my blog this morning on a similar topic. I'd love to see someone take the Budweiser frogs ad and have them saying, "Mitt-Rom-Ney" while looking at a Mitt Romney sign... It's simple, catchy and retro...

As for the whiteboard, I really liked this one.
